Organizations
Overview
Organizations within Scaled Sense serve as an abstracted representation of your organization in the platform. They act as the highest level in the hierarchy for organizing your Products and Services. At the Organization level, Scaled Sense collects and encodes your organization's business rules and other key information to enable the provisioning of infrastructure to mirror the way your organization manages its technology assets.
If you're envisioning new processes for your organization as part of adopting Scaled Sense, or are unsure of where to start - our recommendation is to start simple when setting up your business rules. As you start to understand your organization better, it is always easier to expand processes rather than retract them.
Associations
Organizations represent the highest level in the hierarchy for resources that are interacted with in the Scaled Sense platform. Its associations to other resources within the platform are shown and described below:
Business Units
Business Units represent the different departments within an organization. Scaled Sense uses this information to provide a list of Business Units available to users from your organization when creating Products using the platform.
At each Product, users will be asked to specify the Business Unit the Product belongs to. The selected Business Unit for that Product is then used in the construction of the names of cloud resources provisioned for Services associated with that Product.
Product Roles
Product Roles represent the different roles a user may have while building and maintaining solutions within an organization. Scaled Sense uses this information to provide a list of Product Roles available to users from your organization when administering Products using the platform.
At each Product, users will be provided the opportunity to enable Product Roles that apply to that Product. The selected Product Roles are then used to determine which security groups are created for all Services associated with that Product.
Criticality Tiers
Criticality Tiers represent the classifications of system criticality within an organization. Scaled Sense uses this information to provide a list of Criticality Tiers available to users from your organization when creating Products using the platform.
At each Product, users will be asked to classify each with a Criticality Tier. This information will be used to configure and deploy infrastructure aligned to the service-level objectives for the selected tier.
Environment Types
Environment Types represent the different system production tiers within your organization. Scaled Sense uses this information to provide a list of Environment Types that can be deployed for each Service in the organization. At the Organization level, you are also asked to define if the environment should be considered "production-like" and the sequence for how they should be deployed by deployment pipelines. Individual Services may have any number of environment instances, including none, configured for each of the environment types.
Products
An Organization will contain one or more Products used to organize technology within the organization. For more information, refer to Products.
